350.org
350 is building a future that’s just, prosperous, equitable and safe from the effects of climate change. 350.org is an international movement of ordinary people working to end the age of fossil fuels and build a world of community-led renewable energy for all.
Learn more about 350.org
- 350.org is the largest, most effective organization in the world exclusively focused on fighting the climate crisis. But our work is just getting started.
Over the next three years, our goal is to supercharge this movement for climate action. We want to engage millions more people in the movement, systematically weaken the fossil fuel industry’s political power, and through this put immense political pressure on governments until they act at the scale of this crisis. - On September 20th, millions will take part in the youth-led Global Climate Strikes. We’re partnering with youth around the world to call for bold climate action.

Conservation International
Building upon a strong foundation of science, partnership and field demonstration, Conservation International empowers societies to responsibly and sustainably care for nature, our global biodiversity, for the well-being of humanity.

Our Vision: We imagine a healthy and prosperous world in which societies are forever committed to caring for and valuing nature for the long term benefit of people and all life on earth.
Science background
- If we don’t address climate change, little else will matter. Nature is an overlooked, irreplaceable asset in combating climate change: Protecting and restoring tropical forests and mangroves would account for at least 30 percent of global action needed to avoid the worst climate scenarios — and at the same time helps communities adapt to the effects of climate change that are already happening. Restoration represents half of nature’s potential in the fight against climate change, and is the only technology available to remove CO2 from the atmosphere at scale.
CI’s part in advocacy/programming:
- Restoration involves a diverse range of actions, including natural regeneration of forests to the establishment of tree plantations to agroforestry. Conservation International’s approach to restoration is community-based – to ensure that restoration activities can maximize environmental and social outcomes. Restoration is an opportunity to flip the script from the negative (stopping deforestation) to the positive (restoring and regenerating our planet and its ecosystems). The benefits of restoration to people include:
To people:
- Generate income, jobs, and new revenue streams
- Diversify income through agroforestry such as shade cocoa or coffee
- Over the long term, help compensate for lost income from avoided forest conversion.
To nature:
- Replant forests and other natural areas – restoring ecosystem services along with the forests. Thais includes water filtration, pollination, and biodiversity conservation.
- Enhance carbon sequestration outcomes
- Improve agricultural productivity on existing farming areas and under-used lands/degraded pasture linked to avoided deforestation (land sparing)
To business:
- Improve agricultural productivity
- Enhance resilience and reduce risks of disruption from severe weather, storms, floods, and drought
Future plans particular to the story we decide to tell, all a plus:
- In the next six years, a major Conservation International initiative will restore 30,000 hectares and approximately 73 million trees in the Brazilian Amazon River basin. The project is a result of a partnership between the Brazilian Ministry of the Environment (MMA), Global Environment Facility (GEF), World Bank, Brazilian Fund for Biodiversity (Fundo Brasileiro para a Biodiversidade – Funbio), Conservation International (CI – Brasil), Instituto Socioambiental (ISA) and the socio-environmental initiative of Rock in Rio, Amazonia Live. Spanning 300 square kilometers, equal to the size of 30,000 soccer fields and nearly 70,000 acres, the project is the largest tropical forest restoration in the world.

League of Conservation Voters
The League of Conservation Voters (LCV) works to turn environmental values into national, state and local priorities. LCV, as part of the Conservation Voter Movement along with our state LCV partners, advocates for sound environmental laws and policies, holds elected officials accountable for their votes and actions, and elects pro-environment candidates who will champion our priority issues.

Current program/area of concern:
The 2020 presidential election represents the last, best chance for the U.S. to confront the climate crisis. Change the Climate 2020, a project of the League of Conservation Voters, is elevating climate action in the 2020 presidential primary elections and ensuring that candidates fully appreciate the scope of the climate crisis, make climate change a top priority, and commit to an ambitious plan to address the crisis on day one as president.
